Light PaintingFor this project we were learning how to make a successful photo using a technique called light painting. Light painting is the process of using a light source to create a shape or a kaleidoscope effect within a photo or to also "paint" and capture a subject. In order to accomplish a light painting the camera had to be set up on a tripod and put into TV mode. In order to capture the light exposure the camera's expose time had to be set to 15 seconds or higher so the image could be created. To make my images I used my phone flashlight with homemade filters over the top as well as a blinking light up wand and my Christmas tree in my room. Hard to explain the Christmas tree bit but it created a cool effect that can be seen in the last picture. To edit I mainly used the contrast slider in camera raw and also the blacks slider.

Reflections of Rooted MomentsMy image displays a (center photo) surrounded by images of natures that are reflected on either side. Our project was to pick our choice of art movement and capture our portfolio theme while instilling a fluid theme of reflections throughout it. My image reflects my art movement, Naturalism, by showing nature surrounding or reflecting a "rooted" moment of my girlfriend and in our natural state. My image is definitely a twist on the Naturalism art movement as it does not capture a landscape like most pieces of this movement tended to do but it captures nature surrounding moments of people in my life in their natural state. When someone views this image I hope that they would be able to appreciate my twist on a classic art movement and be able to see the play on words in the image's title, which is "Reflections of Rooted Moments." The first 4 images are edited using split color and filter gallery and were cropped after.
Leafing Through Time My image captures the shadows of my friends and I within a leaf while the sun is setting. Our project was to create a surrealist image that captured our theme for our final portfolio while providing a fluent theme of mystery throughout the photo. My image reflects this by showing a moment, the shadows, within the leaf to represent the mystery of what was happening in this moment. When someone views this image I hope they can draw in the theme and understand the photo like I see it.
Abstract Art and PhotographyA piece of artwork can be abstract if it contains an image that represents a thought or idea but it doesn't have a physical or concrete existence. In order to create an abstract work a photographer would shoot up close to an object so it can be unrecognizable as that said object because abstracts works are supposed to be able to be described as non-objectively as possible. A photographer may also shoot through other objects and use "filters" like tissue paper or saran wrap, in order to create an abstract look in a photograph. |
